In Japan, the resurgence of Horror Films is attributed to the extraordinary success of RING (1998). Of course, nether RING nor its numerous sequels would have enjoyed the cultural mania if it weren't for that country's rich history of supernatural entertainment. Traces of the traditional ghost story, as exemplified by the classic GHOST OF YOTSUYA (1959) and KWAIDAN (1964) are firmly entrenched in the foundation of RING and it's imitators.

. . . and then, of course, there are the horror films - titles like Ahn Byeong-ki's splatterfest NIGHTMARE, Kim In-Soo's BLOODY BEACH and Chang Yoon-hyun's masterful TELL ME SOMETHING.
